The Town of Taylor was "set-off" from the Town of Solon in 1849. Named for the Mexican-American War hero and President, Zachary Taylor, the town was for most of its existence an agricultural area with an emphasis on dairy farming. As the emphasis on farming has decreased, it has become a residential community.
Taylor is located on the eastern side of Cortland County. It is mostly hilly and has as its centerpiece Solon Pond which is located at Taylor Center.
Monthly Meetings of the Town Board take place on the 2nd Tuesday of each month starting at 7 p.m. located at the Town Hall. These meetings are open to the public and all are welcome. Please contact the Town Clerk or Town Supervisor at least one week in advance to request privilege of the floor.
Town Court is held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month beginning at 6 p.m.
