The Town of Taylor was "set-off" from the Town of Solon in 1849. Named for the Mexican-American War hero and President, Zachary Taylor, the town was for most of its existence an agricultural area with an emphasis on dairy farming. As the emphasis on farming has decreased, it has become a residential community.
